You Found an Animal... Now What

***WHEN YOU FIND AN INFANT OR INJURED ANIMAL, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO FEED OR GIVE WATER***

This can be crucial and sometimes life threatening depending on the situation. Babies will aspirate easily. Please keep the animal safe, dry, and as warm as possible. Fleece blankets are perfect to use. The best option for warming the animal is to utilize a heating pad on a low setting with a towel or blanket between a box or plastic tote with a blanket gently wrapped around the animal, especially if only half of the tote is on the heating pad.

Cats have mouths full of bacteria that can kill an animal in a short time. All animals caught by a cat need to be brought in for medication and rehabilitation, even if you can’t see wounds.

If a dog brings you an animal call immediately.  Dogs have powerful jaws that can create crushing injuries.

PWRR does NOT have a central facility or drop box to which you can bring an animal needing care. All of our rehabbers work out of their private homes. You might be asked to aid in transportation of the animal to the closest rehabber within our network. If there is ever a situation where we do not have somebody with PWRR close to you, we do work closely with other rescues and facilities throughout the state and will guide you in the best direction.
